| Abstract |
The Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) carries out interdisciplinary scientific investigations in oceanography, marine meteorology, and related subjects. Results from PMEL research activities contribute to NOAA's strategic goals of (1) implementing seasonal to interannual climate forecasts, (2) documenting, predicting, and assessing decadal to centennial climate change, (3) advancing short-term warning and forecast services, and (4) rebuilding sustainable fisheries.
PMEL complements its research efforts through three ERL cooperative institutes: the Joint Institute for Study of the Atmosphere and Ocean (JISAO), with the University of Washington; the Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (JIMAR), with the University of Hawaii; and the Cooperative Institute for Arctic Research (CIFAR), with the University of Alaska. PMEL also conducts complementary research programs with NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and the Cooperative Institute for Marine Resources Studies (CIMRS), a joint organization with Oregon State University. |
