Abstract Starting with the needs expressed by a number of end users, it is planned to produce a seamless, homogeneous land cover database for the Baltic Sea Drainage Basin, based upon medium-resolution satellite data. The database is envisaged to have a maximum resolution in the order of 250 metres, and will provide land cover information in several broad and some more detailed classes.
