| Abstract |
The proposed research project involves an interdisciplinary approach that attempTs to integrate remote sensing data and geocoded thematic data for mapping, modelling and monitoring land degradation in Mediterranean environments. In the analysis of desertification in the Mediterranean area, there exists an urgent need for mapping the extent of land units that are or have been subject to degradation processes and to identify the levels of degradation at a regional scale. We intend to obtain such maps by applying improved mapping algorithms to multitemporal data from Noperational optical satellite systems (Landsat-TM, SPOT, NOAA).
